Today I enjoy all of our
adventures with digital camera in hand. I write in a journal each
time, and when I sit to arrange our photos into a Scrapbook page, I
make sure to record the dates, names and events. I want my
grandchildren and great grandchildren to know who I am, and who of
those in my life touched me so much,
that I put it in writing to cherish for generations to come. One of the joys of creating scrapbooks for other people is knowing that I'm helping them create an heirloom that will tell their stories to future generations. And nothing beats the look on a person's face when they receive their anniversary, wedding, or birthday album and realize that someone cared enough about them to preserve their story permanently. When my
grandmother died, I was reminded of the importance of preserving family
memories. She left behind boxes and albums of old photos, but no one in
the family can remember who all the people in the photos are and what
their relationship was to my grandmother. And worse yet, many
photos were damaged by the books they had been kept in and the glues
and inks used. My mother and I went on a quest from that day
forward and have researched, repaired, hunted down information and set
to the task of putting all those photos with names, dates events and in
digital form for archiving. Our ongoing 'Heritage Project'
continues today. But all of that got me to thinking.... what of
all the photos I have in boxes on now on the computer? How will
my future generations know who we are and how we lived, loved, laughed,
cried and the true essence of me?
